So you’re deciding between the new iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6 or even iPhone 5s? Wondering if it’s worth the upgrade from the 5S to the 6 or 6 Plus? The major points to consider between the devices are price, usability, design and function. Just because a phone has more features, doesn’t necessarily mean it will be worth the extra money.
So first off, let’s talk about the price differences. The iPhone 5S starts at $549 at 16GB and $599 at 32GB, 64GB is no longer an option. The iPhone 6 starts at $649 with 16 gigabytes, $749 with 64 gigabytes and $849 with 128 gigabytes. Let me note that 128GB is not even a necessity nowadays with services such as iCloud at our disposal. The iPhone 6 Plus is a money vacuum, it starts at $749 16 gigabyte, $849 64GB and $ 949 128GB. The fully specced out iPhone 6 plus is more than a Macbook Air! Of course these are non subsidized prices, each carrier has their own deals and promotions but generally the 6 starts at $199 on contract and the 6 Plus at $299 and the iPhone 5S at $99.
Second is size, obviously the 6 Plus is going to be a much larger phone for a certain set of people. Not everyone wants a larger display, however the 6 plus is currently outselling the regular 6 by 3 times! 5.5 Inches on the 6 plus is considerably larger than the iPhone 5S at 4.0 inches. The iPhone 6 hits the sweet spot at 4.7 inches. General usability is good on the iPhone 6, whereas on the 6 plus it’s impossible to use one handed so be prepared to use it with both hands. The new displays found on the 6 and 6+ are apparently the best Apple has ever made. Contrast ratio is much higher and colors look deeper and more vibrant. Resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels with 401 pixel density on the 6 plus, 1334 x 750 and 326 PPI on the 6 and 1136 x 740 with 326 PPI on the 5S. Screen resolution is sharper on the iPhone 6 plus so content will also be more crisp.

The camera is different on every one of these devices. The 5S features an 8mp sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 1080p video at 60FPS. Slow motion on the 5S is limited to 120 FPS. The 6 is a major step up in terms of quality. New focus pixel technology is exclusive to the 6 and 6 plus which results in faster and crisper autofocus. Video capability is 1080p at 60FPS on the 6 and 6 plus. Slow motion however is now capable of 240 FPS! It makes for some crazy shots as you can see in the video above. The 6 Plus however has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) that results in very steady video especially during movement.
Besides physical differences, the 6 and 6 plus models have NFC technology that support Apple’s new payment system. The 6 Plus has software enhancements to make better use of the screen size. Both the iPhone 6 VS iPhone 6 Plus have a software feature that is activated by tapping the Touch ID sensor twice in order to activate one handed usage.
So which should you buy? Well between the iPhone 5S there is a massive difference and it’s well worth the 100 dollar difference. However the 6 and 6 plus only have battery size, resolution and camera stabilization that are different, it’s up to you whether all that and the larger screen appeal to you. Apple has just revealed the 2 new mammoth phones known as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. At a glance they will seem nearly indistinguishable besides the screen size, but make no mistake, there is more than meets the eye. Most of the iphone users are faced with a choice they have never been faced with before. We’ve always been accustomed to a smaller display that was both comfortable and familiar. With these 2 new options, it’s quite a new step for Apple & may leave many with confusion.
First thing you’ll notice is the larger form factor of the iPhone 6 plus, it’s 7.1 mm vs a 6.9mm of the i6. Display size is at 5.5 inches as compared to 4.7. In order to compensate for the increased size, Apple bumped the resolution on both models. The iPhone 6 has a 1334 x 750 resolution and pixel density of 326 PPI, the iPhone 6 Plus has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 with a PPI of 401. The display will be noticeably sharper on the iPhone 6 plus as the pixel density is richer.
There’s more than just a screen difference between these 2 devices, as I compared before. Internally, these devices are powered by the same A8 chip with a motion coprocessor. Ram is the same, it was predicted that the iPhone 6 would carry more to further differentiate the two models from each other.
The iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 plus battery is different, a 2900 mah battery is nestled in the larger housing of the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 has a 1900 mah battery which is rated better than the iPhone 5S by around 10-15%. The chart below shows the official battery numbers.
The iSight camera also has a major change on the iPhone 6 plus model. Optical image stabilization is standard on the higher end iPhone while the iPhone 6 manages with digital optimization. Both are good but any good photographer knows that there is no comparison when it comes to overall quality of the optical counterpart. For the people that need this, it could be a major benefit that the iPhone 6 Plus carries over the 6.
Whether or not the iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus is the one for you really depends on several factors. Where you’re coming from, if you’re a previous iPhone user, you’re probably accustomed to doing everything on a smaller display and should stick to the smaller iPhone 6. Should you be coming from Android with all the larger displays, the iPhone 6 plus could definitely appeal more to you. Of course besides form, the iPhone 6 has a better video camera, better screen size & resolution and a much longer lasting battery life. Taking all of these into consideration is important when making the decision.

In what appears to be a mad dash for internet fame, a person has leaked the official iPhone 6. In a 7 minute video shown below, we are given a glimpse of the new iPhone in an extensive working iPhone 6 Review. Without a doubt, this is the iPhone 6 based on how fluid it runs & how there is software not seen on other iPhones. VApple’s September 9th event is almost here and we expect to see many more leaks before it arrives.
It seems dangerous to do, Apple has not taken leaks lightly in the past but you can almost see a mad gleam of defiance in the eye of the reviewer. The video is entirely in Chinese but when translated, we may understand that it is “noticeably faster than the predecessor”. Also he was happy to report that this device is “much lighter” than the iPhone 5s which was in itself a huge improvement in weight over the iPhone 4s.
The leaker also compared the device to the current iPhone 5s in his iPhone 6 review. The new hardware is noticeable thinner and features a larger display set at 4.7 inches versus the current 4.0. Just a couple more days to go before Apple finally lifts the veil on their long awaited iPhone 6 & iWatch.
